Staff Competencies
All employees at Tailored Living Choices (TLC) must meet specific qualifications and screening requirements before hire. These requirements help ensure the safety, reliability, and professionalism of all individuals who support our clients.
Key Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must successfully pass DOJ fingerprint clearance through Live Scan before beginning employment.
- Must have a working, insured vehicle and maintain a valid driver’s license if driving is part of job duties.
- Must sign a release for DMV record verification prior to hire.
- Employment eligibility is verified in accordance with federal and state regulations.
TLC conducts reference checks to confirm reliability, professionalism, and experience working with individuals with developmental and behavioral support needs. Three references are required. References must be known at least one year and may not be a relative.

Job Descriptions
Personal Attendants
Personal Attendants at Tailored Living Choices (TLC) play an essential role in supporting adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities to live safely and independently in their own homes and communities.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct support and supervision in daily living activities such as meal preparation, hygiene, medication prompts, and household tasks.
Assist clients in achieving goals outlined in their Individual Service Plans (ISPs). - Support community participation, transportation to appointments, and social activities.
- Implement behavior and safety plans developed by the client’s support team.
- Accurately complete documentation, daily logs, and reports in accordance with agency policy and regional center requirements.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, case managers, and team members to ensure consistent and person-centered support.
Each applicant must be or become an active/approved IHSS (In-Home Supportive Services) provider in accordance with Regional Center and county program requirements.

Training & Competency Development
All new employees complete a structured orientation program prior to working independently. Training includes:
- Person-centered philosophy and individual rights
- Behavioral support
- Health, safety, and emergency procedures
- Medication awareness and documentation standards
- Community inclusion and transportation safety
- Ongoing in-service training continues throughout employment to ensure staff remain current in best practices, agency policies, and regulatory compliance.
